Inscrutable Giants

Two years ago, we were lead to believe the wholesale changes made by John Mara were going to get the Giants on a path to prosperity. With the firings of GM Jerry Reese, VP of Player Personnel Marc Ross, and head coach Ben McAdoo, these three were the bad actors responsible for the Giants 3-13 season. Additionally, Reese and Ross were held accountable for their poor selection of players and the constant losing. Takeaway the 2016 season, overall, the Giants compiled a record 33-48.

In late 2017, here comes the Calvary. Over There. Over There. Send the word. Send the word. Gettleman is coming. The imperious and bellicose Dave Gettleman took over and said all the right things. Rebuild the Offensive line. We are going to Kick ass. This fired up the Giants fan base. Indeed, the losing under Gettleman’s watch will cease. This was the hope. Unfortunately, this has not happened. The Giants have gotten worse under Gettleman’s leadership. 5-11 and 4-12 seasons have roiled some of the smart Giants fans. Especially after Patch Mara fired head coach Pat Shurmur and kept the feckless and feeble minded Dave Gettleman.

So here we are in 2020. the Giants hired Joe Judge as the new head coach. This hire by the Giants indicates the following: 2020 is a free pass for Judge and the Giants. Regardless of record in 2020, the team is preparing for a 2021 playoff push. Giants owner John Mara is betting on the much maligned Dave Gettleman to continue acquiring quality players like Daniel Jones and Dexter Lawrence. If Gettleman bolsters the roster over the next two years and Judge and his staff coach them up, this is Giants secret sauce for success. Evidently, the thinking within the organization is the Giants had a coaching problem not a talent problem.
